Winchester Railroads

A big part of Winchester history (and money) came from the railroads. Ranchers had many tracks to load cattle, as well as a spur south of town if they didn't want to drive the herd to town.

You can find out more info and see some wonderful images at the Library, and the local historian Ray is glad to talk you through any questions.

Our Pink Princess called Ray and got the scoop: The lines connected to Valley Falls, on the Kansas Central Division of Union Pacific. At Valley Falls it hooked up with Santa Fe. All was lost in the early 1930s when banks closed and railroads stopped running.
